Agios Evmenios is a relatively new Saint. His life was marked by piety. It was also marked by service to others. Born on January 1 1931 in Ethia Heraklion. Agios Evmenios was the son of Georgios and Sofia Saridakis. His parents instilled in him deep religious values.
At the tender age of two his father died. His spiritual awakening led him to a monastic life. His desire was a path of prayer. It also included devotion. He entered the Holy Monastery of Agios Nikitas in Crete.
The humble Konstantinos later known as Agios Evmenios embraced monasticism. As a novice monk he excelled. He performed all duties with diligence and love. The testimony of Aristea Saridakis recalls his words. “Oh Papa-Gianni we don’t deserve so much grace from the Church.”
Agios Evmenios did not forget his origins. Hailing from the Ethia of Heraklion he held Crete in his heart. He longed to serve his fellow islanders. His love was strong despite not belonging to the municipality of Tetra and Paraskevi. His connection to his sister Eugenia remained strong.
He faced challenges. The wise Konstantinos did not dwell. He solved arithmetical problems. His wisdom guided him in faith. Agios Evmenios drew strength from the Monastery of Agios Nikitas in Crete.
Later in life Agios Evmenios faced health challenges. He bore it all with patience. He was transferred to the 424 Military Hospital of Thessaloniki. There he offered comfort to fellow patients.
Agios Evmenios left this world on May 23 1999. His legacy continues to inspire. He is now venerated. Agios Evmenios is a saint of healing. He is a saint of compassion.
