The Wasserstrassen-Neubauamt Heidelberg is responsible for modernizing and building new structures. This includes weirs locks flood barriers dams and fish migration facilities. This requires extensive work. The 27 locks between Mannheim and Plochingen need lengthening. Currently ships only up to 105 meters can pass through.
