High above us, the Hoher Nistler stands silent. It holds a tragic tale. On a cold December day in 1991, tragedy struck the slopes of the Hoher Nistler. A DC-3 aircraft, on a mission to capture footage for a satirical film, crashed into its peak. The filmmakers, a talented group with dreams bigger than their budget, had chosen the vintage aircraft for its unique aesthetic.

The Hoher Nistler, usually a peaceful giant overlooking Heidelberg, became the scene of a devastating event. The crash claimed the lives of 28 of the 32 passengers and crew onboard. The film they were shooting, a satire about the ultra-rich seeking refuge in luxury bunkers, was sadly ironic.

Today, a simple stone marker stands on the Hoher Nistler, a solemn reminder of the tragedy. It serves as a place for reflection, remembering those who lost their lives in pursuit of their artistic vision. The Hoher Nistler, forever marked by this event, reminds us of the fragility of life and the enduring power of memory.
