Ever wondered about the legacy of a school? Arundel School stands before you a testament to history. This isn’t just a school it’s a story etched in brick and mortar. Established in 1955 Arundel School opened its doors to girls aged 12-18. It began on Arundel Farm a hundred acres sold by the Simpsons. The dream was bold a school for girls from across Rhodesia and Nyasaland. The foundation stone was laid on May 27 1955 a date still celebrated. Sabi House the first boarding house welcomed its first students in January 1956. Classrooms were still under construction but education began. The school quickly expanded. By 1959 a new wing boasted classrooms and a temporary chapel now known as the Cinema. More buildings followed three boarding houses by 1968. Arundel’s story is detailed in Grace and Learning from Africa by former Headmistress Dorothy Twiss. The school’s grounds expanded too. Fenella Cottage a gift from Mr Simpson now hosts leadership camps. An outdoor activity course promotes fitness. Six competitive houses Austen Bronte Burney Eliot Gaskell and Irwin foster school spirit. Arundel’s impact extends far beyond its walls. Its notable alumnae include Ellah Wakatama Allfrey OBE Tsitsi Dangarembga and Fadzayi Mahere. They are just a few examples of the many successful women who have passed through these gates. Arundel School is more than an institution. It’s a place where generations of women have learned and grown. A place where a dream took root blossomed and continues to flourish.
