These included the SPD, Reichsbanner, Naturfreunde, and the trade union. Anton Macioszyk worked as a draftsman and retoucher. He drew caricatures for the SPD newspaper Volkswille. These caricatures referenced the Hitler regime. He opposed fascism. Soon after Hitler seized power, he was arrested.
On the evening of June 23 1933, the SA picked up Anton Macioszyk. They ransacked his apartment. They found drafts and drawings. The SA men dragged him to their party pub. There, several SA men brutally beat and tortured him. They wanted to know his followers. He remained silent. He did not betray his comrades. At night, they dragged him to the Misburg fire station on Kurze Strasse. They continued to torture him there. Friends who wanted to help were driven away. The SA then wanted to burn him alive. The fire brigade arrived. The SA disappeared. Anton Macioszyk succumbed to his severe injuries.
After 80 years of silence, the Mudzborgh brotherhood ensured a memorial plaque. It was placed at Kurze Strasse 8. This was the site of the horrific event. The Mayor of Hanover, Bernd Strauch, unveiled the Anton Macioszyk Plaque. The Mayor thanked the brotherhood. Juan Carlos Blanco Varela, Thomas Hall, Willy Kuschmierz and Wolfgang Illmer were part of it. He thanked them for their initiative. Strauch recommended schools to visit the Anton Macioszyk Plaque. He wanted students to learn about past injustices.
