Clutching worn textbooks, a gaggle of students spills out of Trương THPT Kim Liên, their laughter echoing in the Hanoi air. Trương THPT Kim Liên has been a cornerstone of education here in Hanoi since 1974. Originally built on land belonging to Trung Tu village, in the Kim Liên commune, the school’s name, Kim Liên, translates to “yellow lotus.” This vibrant flower graces the school’s emblem, a symbol of enlightenment and purity. The school’s initial enrollment was sixteen 8th-grade classes, equivalent to today’s 10th grade. The campus has expanded significantly since then. Today, Trương THPT Kim Liên boasts a modern four-story building, as well as the original three-story structures. The campus also features updated science labs and computer rooms, catering to approximately 2000 students across 45 classes. While academics are paramount at Trương THPT Kim Liên, with English being a required subject and German and Japanese offered as electives, the school also nurtures a vibrant extracurricular scene. Clubs dedicated to dance, volleyball, guitar, and community service flourish here, fostering a well-rounded educational experience. The school even has exchange programs with partner schools in Japan, Germany, Australia, and Singapore, broadening the horizons of its students. Over the years, Trương THPT Kim Liên students have consistently achieved high marks in citywide and national competitions. The school has earned numerous accolades, including the prestigious Labor Order, First Class, in 2010, acknowledging its significant contributions to education. Even a ceiling collapse in 2012, which, thankfully, resulted in only minor injuries, couldn’t dampen the spirit of this vibrant learning institution.
