“Established in 1996” echoes in the air. Khương Trung Ward came into being when it was separated from Nguyễn Trãi Ward. We are standing in Khương Trung. This ward is a part of Thanh Xuân district in Hanoi.
Before 1996 this area was different. Khương Trung was once a village. It belonged to Khương Đình commune in Thanh Trì district. Around 1978 to 1980 Khương Trung village became part of Nguyễn Trãi sub- khu. This was in Đống Đa precinct.
A decision changed things on June 10 1981. The Hanoi City People’s Council altered Hanoi’s inner-city administrative levels. It changed precincts into districts. Sub-districts became wards. Nguyễn Trãi Ward was formed. It was based on Nguyễn Trãi sub-district in Đống Đa precinct.
Then came November 22 1996. The government issued Decree 74-CP. This decree separated 78.1 hectares from Nguyễn Trãi Ward. It also took 20862 people. This created Khương Trung Ward. It became part of the newly formed Thanh Xuân district. The remaining area of Nguyễn Trãi Ward was renamed. It became Ngã Tư Sở Ward. It is now part of Đống Đa district.
Khương Trung is a small ward. Its area is 0.74 square kilometers. In 1999 the population was 19826 people. The population density was high. It reached 25418 people per square kilometer.
Khương Trung is bordered by several areas. Khương Mai Ward is to the east. Thượng Đình Ward is to the west. Khương Đình Ward and Hoàng Mai district are to the south. Đống Đa district lies to the north.
In 1994 the street was named. Khương Trung Street is 900 meters long. It starts from Nguyễn Trãi road. It faces Nga Tu So Service Center. The street runs into Khương Trung ward. It goes beside the eastern bank of the To Lich river. It ends at Ca temple.
Khương Trung has evolved. It changed from a village to a ward. Today it is a vibrant part of Hanoi.
