In 1966, amidst the backdrop of the Vietnam War, a beacon of knowledge emerged: the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology. Right here, where we stand today, the university began its journey as an offshoot of the Hanoi University of Technologies. The Mining and Geology Faculty was its foundation, and from that, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology blossomed. Hanoi University of Mining and Geology quickly became a vital institution. It trained experts crucial for Vietnam’s developing economy. The university provided expertise in resource exploration, exploitation, and environmental protection. Hanoi University of Mining and Geology was more than just a teaching institution. It evolved into a hub for research and technology transfer. The other two campuses are located in Quang Ninh, the heart of Vietnam’s coal mining industry, and Vung Tau, the oil city in the south. Over 50,000 students have graduated from Hanoi University of Mining and Geology. They represent a diverse range of programs, including 41 B.Sc programmes, 17 M.Sc programmes, and 29 PhD programmes. These graduates have become key contributors to Vietnam’s economy. They work in sectors such as oil and gas, coal mining, and construction. Hanoi University of Mining and Geology boasts a faculty of nearly 700, including close to 80 professors and 154 senior lecturers. The university continues to foster international collaborations, emphasizing undergraduate and postgraduate education, research, and consultancy services.
