Pelican Cave

Have you ever wondered why this cave is called Pelican Cave? You just need to ask yourself this question, and the answer will come to you as clear as a bell. The story is about the pelicans that once called this very cave home. Imagine hundreds of pelicans settling in the cave, using it as their own private haven. They were so numerous, they filled the entire cave, making it their own little world. That’s why the cave got its name: Pelican Cave! That’s what Vietnamese people call it – Bo Nau, as “Bo Nau” and “Bo Nong” sound similar and mean pelican in Vietnamese. Pelican Cave sits on Halong Bay’s southwestern corner, 13 kilometers from the Bai Chay Tourist Wharf and a short distance, just 2-3 kilometers, from the southeastern part of Trong Mai Islet. It’s a remarkable sight, with its vast archway entrance measuring 5-7 meters – a truly impressive sight! You can see it for yourself! There are many stalactites hanging from the ceiling, resembling a kind of beast’s mouth. Stepping inside this cave is like stepping into a fantasy world! The cave stretches out for 200 square meters and has a flat floor. Its beauty is enhanced by myriad stalagmites rising up in different sizes and shapes. Right at the entrance, three blocks of stone are arranged in such a way that they look like majestic fairies playing chess – a captivating view! Pelican Cave is a place where you can lose yourself in its secrets and marvel at the grandeur of Mother Nature.
