Administratively, Yanshan District includes several divisions. There is Liangfeng Subdistrict. Yanshan Town and Zhemu Town are here. Dabu Township and Caoping Hui Ethnic Township also belong to Yanshan.

Yanshan experiences a humid subtropical climate. The average daily temperature is 19.3°C. January sees cooler temperatures with an average of 8.3°C. July is warmer with an average of 28.1°C. Rainfall is abundant. The district receives about 1,883.3 mm of rain annually.

In 2021, Yanshan District saw economic growth. The GDP increased by 5 percent. Public budget revenue rose by 8.1 percent. Investment in fixed assets reached 2.518 billion yuan. Retail sales grew by 8.2 percent. Urban and rural residents saw income increases.
