It was moved to Qixing Park’s Putuo Mountain. It even survived the Cultural Revolution although the inscription was damaged and later restored.
Finally in 2014 the decision was made. The city government would rebuild Xiaoyao Tower. It was deemed vital to Guilin’s cultural identity. The reconstructed tower is near its original location. It stands proudly in a Tang Dynasty style. Its reconstruction was completed in 2015. It was a year-long project. Today Xiaoyao Tower stands as a symbol of resilience.
