“Can you believe it? The first international-level cricket game in China happened right here.” Welcome to the City Forex Stadium in Guangzhou. This stadium is more than just a sports venue. It represents a significant moment in China’s sporting history.

The City Forex Stadium opened in 2010. It quickly became a hub for various sports. Besides cricket, it hosts Australian football, rugby tens, rugby union, and touch rugby. GZ United proudly calls this stadium home.

Imagine this flattened patch of mud transforming into a world-class facility. Construction started in May 2008. By August 2009, it was still just a muddy field. A dedicated Bangladeshi curator, Jasimuddin, stepped in. He previously managed the Kinrara Oval in Malaysia.

The stadium’s design is uniquely Chinese. Architects used materials sourced from Guangdong Province. The wicket square features clay from Shaanxi Province. The Chinese Cricket Association imported the certified seed turf from the United States.

This meticulous attention to detail paid off. The International Cricket Council granted the City Forex Stadium the right to host One Day International and Twenty20 matches. In 2010, the stadium hosted the Asian Games cricket matches for both men and women. The 2012 Women’s Asia Cup Cricket tournament also took place here.

With a seating capacity of 12,000, the City Forex Stadium provides an intimate setting for fans. The stadium covers an area of 6355 square meters. You will find it within the Guangdong University of Technology in the Higher Education Mega Centre.

The City Forex Stadium stands as a testament to Guangzhou’s growing role in international sports. It embodies the spirit of competition and the pursuit of excellence. It’s a place where athletes from around the world come to compete. The stadium also fosters a sense of community among sports enthusiasts. As you leave, remember the roar of the crowd and the thrill of the game. The City Forex Stadium is a landmark that continues to make history.
