Did you know the mosque’s carpet is considered the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet? Iranian artist Ali Khaliqi designed it. It measures 5,627 square meters. Around 1,300 carpet knotters crafted it. The carpet weighs 35 tons. It contains over 2 billion knots.

Marvel at the marble used in the construction. Sivec marble from North Macedonia clads the exterior. Lasa marble from Italy adorns the interior. Makrana marble from India features in the annexes.

Notice the floral mosaics decorating the courtyard. British artist Kevin Dean designed them. He chose flowers from the Middle East. Tulips and lilies create vibrant patterns.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque features a unique lighting system. It reflects the phases of the moon. Bluish-gray clouds are projected onto the external walls. The light changes with the lunar cycle.

The 99 names of God are calligraphed on the Qibla wall. Mohammed Mandi Al Tamimi designed this traditional Kufic calligraphy. Fiber-optic lighting is integrated into the design.
