Tucked away in the serene Santhosapuram neighborhood near Tambaram, the Moogambigai Temple offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city of Chennai. Vehicles are not permitted within the temple complex. The surrounding trees enhance the peaceful atmosphere. This privately maintained temple is known for its cleanliness and positive energy. The Moogambigai Temple’s east-facing two-tiered gopuram welcomes you. Inside the sanctum, you’ll find the magnificent Moogambigai. This isn’t a stone statue, but a large metal icon of the Goddess. She is seated in Padmasana, holding a conch and discus in her upper arms. This iconography mirrors that of the Kollur Moogambika Temple. Two other metal icons depict Moogambigai in a standing posture. These are used for processions. A Shiv Linga is also present alongside these three images. Adorning the outer sanctum walls are niche images of Ganesha, Dakshinamurti, Vishnu, and Durga. The maha mandapam stretches out impressively. A separate south-facing shrine is dedicated to Vishnu Durga, also known as Padmalochana. Her image reflects the Kerala style of iconography. The Moogambigai Temple also houses other sub-shrines dedicated to various deities. These include Ganesha, Adi Shankaracharya, Veerabhadra, Navagraha, Lakshmi, and Saraswati. The idols of Adi Shankara, Lakshmi, and Saraswati are crafted from marble.
