What happened just a few blocks from where we stand now? A peace treaty between William Penn and the Indian chiefs of the Delaware, Susquehanna, and Shawnee tribes. This event, centuries ago, is honored in the name of the impressive building standing before us – Penn Treaty School. Built in the spirit of that treaty, Penn Treaty School first opened its doors in 1927. You can’t miss its impressive architecture – it’s a grand example of the Late Gothic Revival style. Those five stories, seventeen bays, and the brick facade speak to a rich history. Look up and notice the projecting end pavilions with their arched openings and the carved limestone details. They’re not just beautiful, they tell a story of craftsmanship and care. The large stone Gothic entryway feels like a portal to another time, while that battlement tower stands as a testament to the school’s enduring presence. Today, Penn Treaty School is more than just a historical landmark. It’s a vibrant learning center for students in grades six through twelve. It’s a place where the echoes of history mingle with the laughter and learning of a new generation.
