Does that mountain have a story? It certainly does, and it’s all about a pioneer named Delaney. Now, we’re not quite sure if he was a selector or a gold prospector. But, one thing is for certain: Mount Delaney, this majestic peak rising 377 meters above sea level, bears his name. This whole area, it seems, is brimming with his legacy. The locality itself, Mount Delaney, sits within the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland. In the 2021 census, a modest 80 souls called this place home. Imagine the peace and quiet! Now, look closely at the western side of Mount Delaney. Notice how it climbs skyward, merging with the impressive D’Aguilar Range? That’s where you’ll find a section of the D’Aguilar National Park, a haven for nature enthusiasts. And if you follow the course of Delaneys Creek, it’ll lead you right through this picturesque landscape. It meanders from east to west, eventually joining forces with Nuerum Creek. Together, they flow into the Stanley River catchment, eventually reaching Somerset Dam. It’s a sight to behold, a tapestry of nature woven by time and the legacy of a pioneer named Delaney.
