Behold the Krakauer Haus. Its story unfolds before you. This isn’t just a building. It’s a bridge between cultures. A testament to friendship between Nuremberg and Krakow.

The Krakauer Haus stands on the site of a medieval city bastion. Part of Nuremberg’s ancient walls. This building was destroyed during World War II. However its story continues.

The partnership between Nuremberg and Krakow dates back to the Middle Ages. It was officially cemented in 1979. This unique partnership led to the creation of two sister houses. Cultural embassies if you will. One in Nuremberg one in Krakow. The Krakauer Haus is Krakow’s only establishment outside of Poland.

Nuremberg architects designed the reconstruction. The city financed the renovation with sponsors. Kurt Klutentreter provided major private funding. The Klutentreter-Saal the most prestigious room in the Krakauer Haus bears his name.

The keys to the Krakauer Haus were ceremonially handed over on November 8 1995. The Polish Foreign Minister Professor Wladyslaw Bartoszewski was present. The official opening took place on June 8 1996.

The Klutentreter-Saal offers breathtaking panoramic views of Nuremberg. It hosts cultural events. Concerts readings and lectures featuring Polish and German artists. The attic above hosts a contemporary art gallery. Exhibitions focusing on Krakow’s art scene change regularly.

The Krakauer Haus is much more than a building. It houses the German-Polish Society in Franconia. There is also a Krakow information centre. A travel agency Polenreisen organizes trips to Poland. Restaurant Kopernikus serves Polish cuisine. A beautiful beer garden complements it during summer.

The Krakauer Haus isn’t merely bricks and mortar. It’s a living symbol of enduring friendship. A place where cultures meet and stories continue to unfold. A testament to the power of collaboration and understanding. It is a unique institution. A bridge between two cities two nations. A must-see for any visitor to Nuremberg.
