Wow look at Dreamworld. This isn’t just a theme park. It’s a living testament to a dream. John Longhurst’s dream to be precise. Back in 1974 he bought 85 hectares of land. He envisioned a place for families. A place filled with Aussie charm. He even hired Disneyland designers. Can you believe that?

Dreamworld opened its gates in December 1981. Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen the then Premier of Queensland officially opened it. The park featured the IMAX Theatre. That’s now the Dreamworld Cinema. There was also a Baldwin Locomotive. It’s still running as the Dreamworld Express.

The 1980s saw Dreamworld grow rapidly. Thunderbolt opened as the world’s longest steel double-loop roller coaster. Blue Lagoon a water park also debuted. The park even added its third mascot Belinda Brown. It wasn’t all smooth sailing though. In 2016 a tragic accident occurred on the Thunder River Rapids Ride. This resulted in the death of four people. The ride was permanently closed and demolished. It was a devastating blow to the park and the community.

Dreamworld didn’t give up though. It continued to evolve adding new rides and experiences. The Sky Voyager a flying theatre opened in 2019. The Steel Taipan a multi-launch coaster was added later. Dreamworld is constantly reinventing itself. New areas like Rivertown were added in 2024. This shows Dreamworld’s commitment to providing unforgettable experiences for visitors.

Dreamworld offers more than just thrilling rides. It also boasts a fantastic zoo. The Corroboree showcases Australian wildlife. You can see koalas kangaroos and other native animals. Tiger Island a unique interactive tiger exhibit is another highlight. The park hosts many events throughout the year too. From Happy Halloween to Winterfest there’s always something to celebrate.

Dreamworld’s journey is one of innovation resilience and a deep love for Aussie spirit. It’s more than just a theme park it’s a story waiting to be discovered. A story full of thrills spills and unforgettable moments. So step inside Dreamworld and experience the magic for yourself. You won’t regret it.
