“Friedchen, Friedchen, who the fuck is Friedchen?” That’s the cheeky question that started it all. Here, at Friedchen’s Bahnhof, we honor those Ruhrpott grandmothers who taught their grandkids to cook. They shared down-to-earth dishes and real-life hacks.

Friedchen’s Bahnhof became a Dortmund institution. People traveled from across the Ruhrgebiet for the burgers and schnitzel. The Google reviews speak for themselves.

The restaurant was located in the Dortmund-Huckarde Nord station. Passenger trains first stopped here in 1879 or 1892. The impressive station building was erected in 1908. It was among the last built in Dortmund before World War I. The train station is a registered monument. It is part of the Industrial Heritage Trail.

But every story has its end. In March 2024, Friedchen’s Bahnhof closed its doors here. The reason? “Long-term stress” with the landlord. A dispute over roof repairs in 2022 never truly resolved.

The owner, Kay Fräder, didn’t beat around the bush. He announced the closure directly. Fans were disappointed. Some traveled from Krefeld just for a cheeseburger. One customer said it was the “best”.

Before closing, Friedchen’s Bahnhof offered a special treat. Guests could enjoy the most successful and unusual burgers one last time. Popcorn burgers and other specialties graced the menu.

But this isn’t goodbye. Friedchen’s Bahnhof will reopen in Unna. It will be at the old B1. This new chapter is expected to begin later.

Friedchen’s food was always the star. Fresh ingredients and care were the key. Each burger and schnitzel were prepared with love. Patties came from regional providers. The buns were exclusive. The restaurant even earned praise from star chef Mike Süsser for its Schaschlik.

Until the new location opens, remember Friedchen’s Bahnhof. Think of the burgers, schnitzel, and that Ruhrpott spirit. This location may be closed but the taste and memories remain.
