What if I told you that this very mountain, Jabal Abu `Azzam, has witnessed events that shaped the course of history? Let me introduce you to Jabal Abu `Azzam. It is more than just a landmark. It is a silent observer of Mecca’s evolution.

Jabal Abu `Azzam is also known as Jabal Abu `Azam. Some even call it Jabal Abu `Azzam. This mountain stands adjacent to the Masjid al-Haram. It is believed that the Prophet Muhammad once stood here. From this very spot he pointed to the moon and split it in half. This extraordinary event is a testament to his prophethood. It was witnessed by many.

Jabal Abu `Azzam has another name: al-Amin. This translates to “the trustworthy”. This name comes from a fascinating story. It is said that Jabal Abu `Azzam safeguarded the Hajar al-Aswad. That is the Black Stone of the Ka’bah. This happened during the great flood in the time of Prophet Nuh. The flood destroyed Makkah and the Ka’bah. Jabal Abu `Azzam became the stone’s protector.

Some believe Jabal Abu `Azzam was the first mountain on Earth. Allah created it. When Prophet Ebrahim reconstructed the Ka’bah, he was guided to Jabal Abu `Azzam. The Hajar al-Aswad was resting there. Ebrahim was told that the stone came from Jannah Paradise. He was instructed to place it in the Ka’bah.

The mountain’s name, Abu Qubais, has interesting origins. Some say a man named Qubais was the first to build a home here. The mountain was named after him. Others suggest it was named after King Abu Qaboos. Another tradition says that Prophet Adam died at the foot of Jabal Abu `Azzam. He was buried there.

Jabal Abu `Azzam also played a role in military conflicts. The Umayyad governor Hajjaj bin Yusuf used a catapult. It was positioned on top of Jabal Abu `Azzam. He fired it onto the Ka’bah during the siege of Makkah in 691 CE. This led to the death of Abdullah bin Zubair.

During the reign of Caliph Harun al-Rashid, Abdallah bin Malik al-Khuza’i built minarets on Jabal Abu `Azzam. This was so that the adhan could be heard throughout Makkah. Residents had complained about missing prayers. They could not hear the call.

In the past, a mosque stood atop Jabal Abu `Azzam. It commemorated Bilal ibn Rabah. He climbed the mountain after the Conquest of Makkah. He called for prayer from there. Today a royal palace stands on the mountain.

So as you stand here take a moment to reflect on the stories Jabal Abu `Azzam holds. This mountain has been a refuge a vantage point and a witness to miracles. It is a place where faith history and legend intertwine.
