Founded in 1979 Jamison Temple Baptist Church has a rich history. It all began with a vision. Reverend Homer Jamison received a divine message to build a church. He obeyed. On April 14 1979 the first organizational meeting took place. Seven members including Reverend Jamison and his wife Sister Royal Jamison were present. They chose the name Jamison Temple Missionary Baptist Church.
Their first service was held at the Jamisons’ home. Soon they found their first church building at 11522 E Warren. They held their first service there on June 17 1979. The church grew rapidly. They outgrew their space.
Reverend Jamison knew they needed to move. On March 6 1983 they held their last service on Warren. March 13 1983 found them in a new building at 14531 Frankfort and Philip. They renovated this building. Membership flourished growing from 73 to over 400 members.
Many ministries developed. These included Deacons Trustees Young Officers Usher Boards choirs and more. The church continued to grow and prosper. Reverend Jamison had a new vision. He called it the Nehemiah Project. This led to another move.
On August 9 and 10 2008 Jamison Temple Baptist Church celebrated a grand opening at its current location 12530 Mack Avenue. This magnificent building stands as a testament to faith perseverance and God’s blessings. It is a place where the community gathers to worship and grow. The church continues its mission of service and outreach. It stands as a beacon of hope in Detroit.
