Imagine this vast underground space covering 179,000 square meters. This makes Jiaohuachang Depot the largest depot in the Beijing Subway network. It houses inspection bays, monthly maintenance warehouses, and even permanent repair facilities. All these are located underground. Above ground, you’ll find office buildings and commercial spaces, reaching up to 80 meters. This clever integration of urban development maximizes land use while preserving history. The western portion of the site includes a city park. It allows natural light to filter down to the depot through open windows. Materials and equipment are also transported through these openings. This depot wasn’t just built for the present. It was designed for the future. Its 24 tracks can hold up to 48 trains, though Line 7 initially started with 35.
