Once a neglected space now thrives. This is the story of Eco Restoration Chakkarpur Wazirabad Bundh. Over the years Gurgaon grew. These ancient bundhs suffered from neglect. They became dumping grounds. But a transformation occurred.

The Eco Restoration Chakkarpur Wazirabad Bundh initiative breathed new life into this area. It became a vibrant green space. This project aimed to revive Gurgaon’s bundh system. The system was designed to harness rainwater. It maintained the water table. It regulated water management.

Imagine this corridor transformed. It now serves as a green corridor. It is a breathing space for the community. The project focused on cleaning the stormwater drain. Over twenty years of garbage was removed. More than two hundred truckloads of silt and plastic waste were disposed of. Sewage flow was stopped. Measures prevented further dumping. Construction waste was reused. An integrated rainwater collection system was built. This included recharge chambers. Trenches and perforated pipes were installed. These ensured rainwater recharges the groundwater.

This 5.2 km urban mobility forest corridor has rejuvenated its neighborhood. Over 30000 native trees and shrubs were planted. This restored the area’s biodiversity. It attracts diverse fauna. Solar lights were installed along the stretch. This reduced dependence on non-renewable energy. The landscape provides flood protection. It recharges the groundwater table. It ensures a sustainable freshwater source.

The revived bundh operates as a carbon sink. It has led to lower emissions. People now walk and cycle. The Chakkarpur Wazirabad Bundh connects people across the city. It allows them to travel safely. It ensures universal accessibility. There are ramps for strollers and wheelchairs.

The Chakkarpur Wazirabad Bundh restoration took three years. It was completed from 2016 to 2018. It is an inclusive space. Native trees and shrubs are planted all along. The forest corridor has walking tracks and cycling trails. This green oasis attracts birds insects and butterflies. It ensures habitat creation. It improves the micro-climate.

Before independence Gurgaon hosted 118 bundhs. Now there are barely 30. Most were treated as dumping grounds. The Chakkarpur project has a climate and environment-sensitive design. It has a rainwater harvesting system.

The Wazirabad Chakkarpur Bundh is a joint effort. IAmGurgaon and the Haryana Forest Department collaborated. They transformed a neglected area into an eco-friendly haven. The project cleaned the stormwater drain. Almost 200 trucks of silt and plastic waste were removed. This waste was repurposed. Solar lighting was adopted.

The Eco Restoration Chakkarpur Wazirabad Bundh is a testament to what can be achieved. Clean green spaces can exist in the heart of the city. This revitalized bundh stands as a symbol of hope. It shows that with dedication and community involvement neglected spaces can be transformed into vibrant ecosystems for all to enjoy.
