Shrouded in the mists of time, the Shohenji Temple, also known as Katsuō-ji, stands as a testament to resilience and faith. Katsuō-ji Temple started its journey in the early years of the Taisho era. A modest temple hall was constructed in Chibune Village, Nishiyodogawa Ward, Osaka. Then, the ravages of war visited Katsuō-ji. During the Osaka Air Raid of the Pacific War, the original temple hall was reduced to ashes. Yet, like a phoenix rising, a new main hall was erected in 1958. As the temple grounds expanded, a charnel house was built. Renovations and expansions continued as Katsuō-ji flourished. Today, the temple stands as a symbol of enduring devotion, having weathered storms both literal and metaphorical. Within its sacred walls, Katsuō-ji offers solace and guidance to those seeking spiritual nourishment. Daily readings of scriptures are held. The temple also hosts Dharma services during the spring and autumn equinoxes, as well as upon request. Regardless of your faith, a visit to Katsuō-ji offers a moment of tranquility amidst the bustling city. It’s a place where you can reflect on the passage of time and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
