Thirteen years young. That’s how old Nico Bohmbach was when his life was tragically cut short. Here, at the Nico Bohmbach Memorial Plaque, we remember his story. This plaque, placed near the entrance to Westpark from the Hellweg Baumarkt, marks the spot where Nico and a friend climbed down into the S-Bahn trench. It was March 31st, 2014, just weeks before the Westpark was officially opened. The secure fence that now separates the path from the railway line wasn’t yet in place. Temporary construction fences were supposed to keep people out, but they were often breached. In this less secure environment, Nico and his friend embarked on their ill-fated exploration. Nico was caught in the slipstream of a passing S-Bahn train in the tunnel. The Nico Bohmbach Memorial Plaque serves as a stark reminder of the tragic consequences that can occur when safety precautions are lacking. It also serves as a memorial to a young life lost too soon. Nico was born on February 15th, 2001, and his memory lives on through this plaque, a testament to the importance of safety and a place for quiet reflection.
