Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the Liberty-Park in Berlin-Hellersdorf. This is a park that has been making waves since the 90s. Back then skaters flocked to Senftenberger Strau00dfe to experience the ramps.

Today we are standing in the Liberty-Park. It is undergoing a grand transformation. The old ramps are gone. They were removed due to noise complaints from new apartments nearby. But fear not, skaters. A new skate-anlage is under construction just a few hundred meters away. It will be near the Rundlaufbahn am Beerenpfuhlgraben. The new skate park should be completed by the end of 2024. The neighboring Jugendclub Senfte 10 is also being renovated.

But what about the Liberty-Park itself? It is being redesigned for all generations. A Kinder-Pumptrack is planned for the old ramp site. This asphalted pump track is for bikes, scooters and everything else with wheels.

The Strau00dfen- und Gru00fcnflu00e4chenamt has commissioned stadt.menschen.berlin to help with the redesign. They gathered ideas from residents. There were workshops for young people. An online survey was available until November 1st. Some residents met with Caroline Dumke from the Bezirksamt and landscape architect Stefan Hack. They discussed how to make the Liberty-Park more attractive. Ideas included better lighting and comfortable seating. They also suggested new play equipment for all ages. Other ideas were unsealed surfaces and movement options for everyone. They also discussed the poorly visible corners of the Liberty-Park. These corners attract litter and rats.

Geskes.hack is now working on a preliminary design. The design will be presented to the public on January 15th. There is 3.4 million euros available for the project. Construction is set to begin in 2025. New plants will be part of the redesign of Liberty-Park. So as you can see, the Liberty-Park is a place of constant change. It adapts to the needs of the community. It is a place for skaters, families, and everyone in between. It is a space for recreation, play, and community. The Liberty-Park is a testament to the power of community input. The Liberty-Park provides a green space in the middle of Berlin-Hellersdorf.
