Phường Khánh Hậu is in the southern part of Tân An city. It shares borders with several other areas. To the east, it borders phường Tân Khánh. The west and south sides border Tiền Giang province. Phường 6 and xã Lợi Bình Nhơn are to the north.

Administratively, Phường Khánh Hậu is divided into four khu phố. These are Giồng Dinh, Quyết Thắng 1, Quyết Thắng 2, and Tường Khánh.
Before 1975, Khánh Hậu was a xã or commune in Thủ Thừa district. In 1977, the government established Bến Thủ district. This was created from Bến Lức and Thủ Thừa districts. At that time, xã Khánh Hậu became part of Bến Thủ district.
In 1983, xã Khánh Hậu was merged into Tân An town. This change was made by the Council of Ministers.
The year 2006 marked a significant change for Khánh Hậu. On June 19, 2006, the government issued Decree 60. This decree led to the creation of two new entities. Phường Tân Khánh was formed from part of xã Khánh Hậu. Then Phường Khánh Hậu was established from the remaining part of xã Khánh Hậu.
In 2009, Tân An became a city. Phường Khánh Hậu became a ward under the administration of Tân An city.
