Whispers of faith echo through time. We stand before the Nha tho Gio xư Sài Quát a testament to enduring faith. This church in the heart of Hung Yen province boasts a rich history stretching back to the late 19th century when the first seeds of Catholicism were sown. The Sai Quat community quietly embraced the new faith despite challenges.
Initially a small community it officially became a parish in 1842. The current church structure however didn’t emerge until much later. In 1890 it was elevated to the status of a full-fledged Gio xư. This significant step meant Sai Quát gained greater autonomy. It signaled a growing community ready for its own dedicated church.
Construction of the magnificent church we see today commenced in 1915 under the guidance of Father Luca Luong. This wasn’t a quick project. Father Luong and his congregation labored for years. They built a truly grand structure brick by painstaking brick. The church finally opened in 1932 a symbol of resilience and unwavering devotion.
The Sai Quat church has endured trials. The 1954 Geneva Accords brought significant upheaval. Many parishioners fled south. Yet the remaining faithful stayed. They maintained their connection to their beloved church. They held fast to their faith despite adversity.
Through the decades Sai Quát has undergone renovations. In the 20th century the church was completely renovated under Father Giuse Nguyen Van Ban. He oversaw extensive repairs and improvements to the building and its grounds. He ensured its place as a centre for their community.
Sai Quát now serves a large congregation. The spirit of faith that began with those humble beginnings endures. The church stands tall a vibrant witness to the power of faith. Its existence reflects the unwavering spirit of the Sai Quát community. This place is more than just bricks and mortar. It represents hope perseverance and the unyielding human spirit. It is a place where faith has found its home for generations. And it will continue to do so for generations to come.
