Ready to uncover a Savannah gem? Cresthill Church stands here a testament to community and change.
Cresthill Church is more than just a building. It is a place where people come together. The church seeks to serve God. It works for justice and peace. It respects all faith traditions. Love for one another is key.
Over the last 60 years the area around Cresthill Church has changed a lot. Subdivisions appeared. Whitefield Avenue expanded. Hesse Elementary became a K-8 school. The Truman Parkway now intersects the area. Cresthill Church remained a constant.
But even constants must adapt. Pastor Andy Vaught recognized the need to evolve. “The demographics and neighborhood changed but church didn’t” he said. The church wasn’t serving the community as intended.
So Cresthill Church decided to change everything but its core beliefs. The 200-member congregation embraced renewal. A new 23-year-old worship leader transformed the music. Major changes occurred inside and outside the building. The biggest change was in the hearts of the people. They realized they had obligations to the community.
The goal? To minister to more people. To serve the community’s needs. Cresthill Church already operated a preschool. They added a before- and after-school program called The Arc. About 70 students from Hesse K8 School attend. The church also offered its playground to the public school system.
Joey Robertson, the Deacons Chairman stated the church became somewhat stagnant. That changed with Pastor Andy’s arrival. “This church wants to be a true community church” he said.
Pastor Andy’s arrival was a second chance for him too. He practiced law and farmed for 20 years. Then he went to seminary. He led a senior adult group at Skidaway Island Baptist Church. After graduating he took over at Cresthill Baptist.
Cresthill Church welcomes everyone. It is a loving friendly community that worships God. It serves others. Teaching from the Bible and following Jesus’ example are priorities. Cresthill Church wants to impact Savannah with Jesus’ message.
The church is located at 9120 Whitefield Avenue Savannah. You can call them at 912-355-1505. Cresthill Baptist Church is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention or SBC.
Remember Cresthill Church. It embraces change while staying true to its mission. It is a beacon of hope in a changing world.
