Ever wondered where Burbank Buymore of the TV show Chuck was filmed? It was filmed right here at Fallbrook Center. This isn’t just any shopping center. Fallbrook Center has a unique history. It has transformed over the decades to become what you see today.

Originally named Fallbrook Square, it opened its doors between 1963 and 1966. Imagine this open-air complex boasting eighty stores and services. Sears and JCPenney were its major anchors then. You could also find F.W. Woolworth, Harris & Frank and even an Ontra Cafeteria here. Remember Karl’s Toys and Nibblers Restaurant? They were part of the original Fallbrook Square too.

Fast forward to the mid-1980s. Fallbrook Square underwent a significant renovation. From April 1984 to July 1986, it transformed into an enclosed mall. That is when it got its new name: Fallbrook Mall. Target and Mervyn’s became the new anchor stores.

The 1994 Northridge earthquake caused damage. By the late 90s, Fallbrook Mall was declining. But it rose again like a phoenix. From 2001 to 2003, it was redeveloped and reborn as Fallbrook Center. It expanded to 1.2 million square feet.

Several stores have come and gone over the years. Kohl’s took over the old Penney’s spot. Big Kmart filled the upper level of the old Sears. Burlington Coat Factory occupied the lower level. Today you will find a Walmart where Big Kmart once stood. Mervyn’s closed in 2008. Later, Sprouts Farmers Market and Ulta Beauty shared that space. Ulta Beauty has since moved to Canoga Park.

Fallbrook Center isn’t just a place to shop. In 1974, a bicycle drag race event was held here. It was even captured in the drag racing documentary Funny Car Summer.

Today, Fallbrook Center is a vibrant shopping destination. It spans 75 acres and boasts 880,000 square feet. You can find many retailers here. These include Walmart, Trader Joe’s and Home Depot. Also present are Target, Ulta Beauty and Bob’s Discount Furniture. Do you need furniture? There is Furniture City. Are you craving a sweet treat? Stop by Crumbl Cookies. You can also find Panda Express, Sprouts Farmers Market and Ross Dress for Less. Need to work out? 24 Hour Fitness is here. Thirsty for boba? Visit It’s Boba Time. Michael’s and Petco are here too.

Retail Opportunity Investments Corp. currently owns Fallbrook Center. It has 52 units. Fallbrook Center continues to evolve. It continues to serve the West Hills community. From its humble beginnings as Fallbrook Square to the bustling Fallbrook Center of today, it remains a vital part of Los Angeles.
