“Guarding the park for over 20 years” that’s quite a resume for a lizard. Today’s story is about The Big Lizard Statue. More specifically the giant frilled lizard sculpture at the entrance to the Australian Reptile Park. This enormous sculpture is not just a decoration. It is a statement.

The Big Lizard Statue is nine metres long. It sits atop the entry sign. The frill-necked lizard makes a bold statement. It delights visitors of all ages. It provides a memorable photo opportunity. For many people it has become an iconic symbol of the park.

Natureworks, a company specializing in creating nature-themed displays, created The Big Lizard Statue. They have worked with the Australian Reptile Park for many years. They have created creative educational displays and practical animal habitats.

One example is the Indonesian-themed Komodo Dragon habitat. Komodo Dragons originate from the forests and savanna of Indonesian islands. The Australian Reptile Park wanted an enclosure that was perfect for their resident Komodo Dragons.

The “Dragon’s Lair” reflects design features of a Balinese Indonesian temple. It is styled to look old. It is decorated with Indonesian masks. It features ornamental elements. There is also a lizard-themed frieze and a 3D Komodo Dragon sign. All of this work was done by Natureworks.

Most impressive is the six-metre-long Komodo Dragon atop the wall. This giant lizard sculpture is twice the size of a living Komodo Dragon. Adult males are usually around three metres long. The sculpture has a long curved tail. This wraps around to frame the sign below. It has a stone-look finish to blend in with the temple design.

Inside the temple, the Park’s Komodo Dragons live in Balinese-inspired habitats. These habitats include a fibreglass replica water buffalo carcass. The Komodo Dragons regularly venture out for a stroll through the grounds. They are always accompanied by their keepers.

In July 2000, the Reptile Park was devastated by a fire. The reconstruction process presented an opportunity to create something truly original. The Park’s aim was to offer a fresh approach to zoo displays. The goal was to enhance the wonderment and appreciation of nature. The Lost World of Reptiles was reborn in 2001.

Natureworks helped to build this unique zoological attraction. The building includes artificial stone walls. It also includes rock features and fibreglass ponds. There are habitats for a variety of reptiles. These include venomous snakes, a reticulated python, iguanas, lizards, crocodilians, turtles, and tortoises.

One unusual sculpture is the ancient Egyptian God of crocodiles, Sobek. He presides over the reptile temple. Reptiles from around the world are displayed within the context of long-lost civilizations. Visitors encounter extinct animals. One example is the seven-metre-long model of the prehistoric Megalania. This giant lizard sculpture reminds us of the largest monitor lizard that ever lived in Australia.

Natureworks has created a range of sculptures for the Australian Reptile Park. These include stone effect masks and decorative elements for the Komodo Dragon temple. They also created murals, artificial rocks and trees, and general habitat theming for the Komodo Dragon enclosure. The company has also made giant frog sculptures around the park.

Natureworks is a long-term supporter of educational projects. They create realistic sculptures to attract and educate visitors. This promotes awareness of biodiversity and conservation.

Whether it’s a giant lizard sculpture, a dinosaur, or an artificial tree, Natureworks can provide it. If you want something different, they can create a custom design. This ensures a unique result. The Big Lizard Statue is just one example of their work. It stands as a testament to their creativity. It also highlights their dedication to promoting a love of nature.
