A storm brewed over Houston in 1900. This storm didn’t just bring rain. It brought devastation to the fledgling Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, tearing apart its structure. Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church’s early history is shrouded in mystery. Its exact founding date remains unknown. We do know that its first organized services began under Reverend I.S. Campbell, possibly as early as 1858. These initial gatherings were humble, held just once a month. The church’s first physical building arose under Reverend Wash Walton. The timeline for this construction is also unclear. A new church building was erected in 1891 during Reverend F.L. Lights’s leadership. Sadly, this structure fell victim to the 1900 storm. Undeterred, the congregation rebuilt. Reverend Lights continued to guide the church until 1908. Another disaster struck in 1915 when a tornado ravaged the rebuilt church. Repairs were overseen by Reverend Joe Balfour. The Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church has seen many pastors ordained within its walls. The current building, constructed in 1959, stands as a testament to the church’s resilience. Pastors like L.B. Bryant, J. Roland Hicks, and Lloyd H. Crosby have all contributed to the church’s rich history. Today, Reverend Clarence Talley, Sr. leads the congregation. Mount Corinth Missionary Baptist Church welcomes newcomers with open arms. It offers preaching centered on the Word of God and ministries catering to all ages. Inside, you’ll find a caring congregation, ready to embrace those seeking spiritual growth.
