Amidst Beijing’s sprawling cityscape lies Maizidian Subdistrict. It is a vibrant area in Chaoyang District. Have you ever wondered about the story behind this place nicknamed “wheat store”?

Maizidian was officially formed in 1987. Several communities were merged to create it. These communities included Nongzhan Nanli, Xiaguangli and Quanguo Nongye Zhanlanguan. They were separated from other subdistricts to form Maizidian Subdistrict.

As of 2020, Maizidian had a population of 30,143. The area spans 6.8 square kilometers. It is bordered by several townships and subdistricts. Taiyanggong Township lies to the north. Jiangtai Township is to the northeast. Dongfeng Township is also to the north. Tuanjiehu and Liulitun Subdistricts border to the south. Sanlitun Subdistrict is to the west. Zuojiazhuang Subdistrict lies to the northwest.

Maizidian is more than just a residential area. It is a hub of activity. Exploring Maizidian means diving into bustling streets. You will encounter delivery drivers zipping around. Scooters weave through the traffic. The area offers a glimpse into local life.

Ichiban Street is a must-visit for food lovers. It is located on Nongzhanguan Beilu. It opened just over eight years ago. In 2019, it expanded to Ichiban Yokocho. Both are filled with Japanese restaurants.

Yume Wo Katare specializes in jiro-kei ramen. Suika is an izakaya-style restaurant. EBISU offers yakitori with a modern twist. Mr Whale Fish and Chips serves British-style takeaway. Tokyo Lounge is a live house with music and cocktails. Xiao Man Teppanyaki offers teppanyaki dishes. Luna serves Western fare.
