“No person with a blinding condition should be without hope.” That’s more than a motto here at the John A. Moran Eye Center. It is a driving force. The John A. Moran Eye Center stands as a beacon of hope. It is for those facing vision challenges.
Established in 1993, the John A. Moran Eye Center quickly outgrew its original facility. In 2006, it moved to this current location on Mario Capecchi Drive. Generous donations from John Moran and others made this possible.
Here at the John A. Moran Eye Center, we provide comprehensive eye care. This ranges from routine exams to advanced treatments. Our specialists handle everything. We treat cataracts and glaucoma. We also treat corneal and retinal diseases.
But we are more than just a clinic. The John A. Moran Eye Center is also a hub for research and innovation. Our 20 research labs are developing tomorrow’s treatments. We aim to find cures for blinding conditions.
Our architecture reflects our mission. The building is organized into two pavilions. There is a six-story Research Pavilion. There is also a five-story Patient Care Pavilion. A glass-enclosed atrium connects them. Bridges cross the atrium at each level. They symbolize the path from research to sight restoration.
Notice the curved glass facade. It fronts the waiting and circulation space. Tinted low-emissivity glass helps with energy efficiency. The atrium visually connects research and clinical activities. It promotes collaboration between researchers and clinicians.
Patient comfort is a priority. We designed waiting areas to take advantage of mountain and valley views. We consulted visually impaired patients to select interior materials. High contrast flooring and furnishings enhance wayfinding.
The John A. Moran Eye Center’s commitment extends beyond Salt Lake City. Our Global Outreach Division works in low-resource countries. We train local doctors and nurses to create sustainable eye care systems. We believe everyone deserves access to quality eye care.
The John A. Moran Eye Center is also home to the Utah Lions Eye Bank. It serves as a coordinating center for donated eye tissue. These generous gifts restore sight to those in need.
The Moran Eye Center ranks among the top ophthalmology centers in the U.S. It is recognized by U.S. News & World Report. We are the largest eye center in the Mountain West. We have more than 40 specialists.
Our education program is one of the nation’s best. We train the next generation of ophthalmologists. We offer fellowships in various subspecialties. This includes cornea, retina, and glaucoma.
So, as you leave the John A. Moran Eye Center, remember our commitment. We strive to provide the best eye care. We aim to find better treatments and cures. We want to ensure no one is without hope.
