“A symbol of peace, in a city known for peace.” Here, at the heart of Augsburg’s central hospital, stands the Mutter Teresa Statue. This bronze artwork serves as a quiet reminder of the Albanian nun who dedicated her life to serving the poorest of the poor. The Mutter Teresa Statue was a gift from the Kosovo Albanian community to Augsburg. It was unveiled in a ceremony attended by city officials, diplomats, and even Kosovo’s Minister of Culture, Memli Krasniqi. The sculptor, Marli Hoff, captured Mother Teresa’s gentle strength and unwavering compassion in the statue’s form. Augsburg’s Vice Mayor, Peter Grab, aptly called Mother Teresa “the symbol of hope” during the inauguration ceremony. He emphasized the statue’s fitting location at the hospital. It’s a place where people in need of hope come for healing and solace. This sentiment resonated with the Kosovo Albanian community’s desire to express gratitude to the German people for their open arms in the 1990s. The Mutter Teresa Statue represents a bond between Kosovo and Germany. It stands as a testament to the shared values of peace, compassion, and hope in a city that truly embodies these ideals.
