Touch a piece of history. Feel the smooth curves of a 1932 Plymouth Brewster Town Car once owned by Eleanor Roosevelt. That’s the magic of the Automobile Driving Museum. Right here in El Segundo you can experience automotive history like nowhere else.
The Automobile Driving Museum isn’t just a museum. It’s a living testament to the evolution of the automobile. Founded in 2002 by Stanley Zimmerman and Earl Rubenstein it’s a non-profit dedicated to preserving and sharing automotive heritage. It boasts over 130 vehicles from 1886 to 2000. Roughly half are on display at any given time.
But this isn’t your typical museum. You’re encouraged to touch and sit in most of the cars. Imagine sliding behind the wheel of a 1955 Packard Caribbean Convertible a gift from Howard Hughes to Jean Peters. Feel the weight of history as you settle into the plush leather. On Sundays you can even take a ride in some of these beauties.
The collection is stunning. There’s a 1936 Packard touring phaeton. Franklin D Roosevelt gifted it to Joseph Stalin. It’s an extraordinary link to a pivotal time in history. And speaking of history the museum also houses a 1904 Schacht Auto-Runabout. This represents the early days of automobile development. It’s a far cry from the sleek lines of a DeLorean or the classic American muscle of a 1962 Chevrolet Impala Convertible. All these are part of the museum’s amazing collection.
What makes the Automobile Driving Museum truly unique is its Sunday Ride Program. This is an opportunity to experience these historical vehicles firsthand. Feel the rumble of the engine. Experience the road from a different era. Children must be ten or older to participate. It’s a chance to connect with automotive history in a way few museums offer.
The Automobile Driving Museum is more than just a collection of cars. It’s a journey through time. It’s an experience that connects you to the past. It awakens a sense of wonder. It’s a place where history comes alive. Come and experience it for yourself.
