Let’s step back in time and imagine a grand estate, a true gem of the Lombardy region. Before us stands Villa Fiorita, a testament to the grandeur of 18th-century aristocracy. Its history whispers stories of noble families and vibrant social gatherings held within its walls.

In 1721, the Counts of Scotti, an influential family who had called Brugherio home since the 16th century, built what was initially a simple aristocratic house. The land itself, however, had a rich background. It belonged to the Court of Monza, a symbol of power and influence in the area. That power would soon shift hands when, in 1778, Count Giambattista Gallarati Scotti of Vedano sold the estate, along with a neighboring building, to Gaspare Ghirlanda. Records suggest Ghirlanda immediately began a transformation of Villa Fiorita, embellishing it with decorative elements that gave it its unique character.

Many years would pass before a new chapter unfolded in the story of Villa Fiorita. The Nosedas, a Milanese land-owning family, took possession of the mansion and used it as their summer retreat. It was during this period that the property was truly transformed, reflecting the Nosedas’ opulent tastes and luxurious lifestyle.

The building was further remodelled, however without changing the structure, to house the town hall, whose opening took place on the 17 December 1978. During the renovation, the original three-arcades portico was rebuilt with granite pillars.

But the transformation wasn’t just about aesthetics, it also reflected a shift in the spirit of the estate. The Nosedas’ lavish lifestyle was replaced by a haven for those in need. In 1938, Villa Fiorita was converted into a nursing home for individuals suffering from “nervous afflictions”. This wasn’t just a symbolic shift, it became a sanctuary for those whose emotional well-being needed careful attention.

The building, because of its heritage status and the recent transformation into a nursing home, has been frequently modified for practical and sanitary reasons: two shells and an extension were demolished in 1963.

And so, while the grandeur of past centuries remains evident in Villa Fiorita’s architecture, its story continues to evolve. Today, it serves as the town hall of Brugherio. The once luxurious summer residence has become the heart of the community, reflecting the resilience and adaptability of this remarkable building.
