“Imagine a time of growth and change” is the theme as we approach Joyo Municipal Joyo Junior High School. This school is more than just brick and mortar. It is a place of community history.

Joyo Municipal Joyo Junior High School stands in the heart of Joyo City. The school resides east of JR Joyo Station. This location places it near key public facilities. The city hall and post office are nearby. Shops, supermarkets, and restaurants surround it. It creates a vibrant atmosphere for students.

Established in 1956, Joyo Municipal Joyo Junior High School has a rich past. It began as a combination of several smaller schools. This merger reflected post-war educational reforms. The goal was to provide broader access to secondary education.

In April 1947, new educational laws took effect. These laws mandated six years of elementary and three years of junior high. This change led to the creation of new junior high schools. Four such schools opened in the local area. One of these was the South Kumiyama Junior High School. It shared space with an elementary school. The North Kumiyama Junior High School opened too. It housed students in separate elementary and high school facilities.

By 1948, these schools merged. They formed the Kumiyama Junior High School. It was the beginning of a unified educational institution. In 1951, municipal changes led to another name change. It became the Kumiyama Junior High School. 青谷村 joined Joyo. This led to the school joining the 泉ヶ丘 Junior High School group.

The post-war era brought challenges. The Kumiyama Junior High School faced issues. These issues included cramped facilities and long commutes. Local leaders wanted their own junior high school. This vision was realized after Joyo was established. By 1954, a decision was made to split Kumiyama Junior High.

In April 1956, Joyo Junior High School opened. Initially, it shared space with West Uji Junior High. In May of the same year, the school moved to its current location. The site was formerly the Jonan Agricultural Work site.

The school expanded over the years. In 1960, a gymnasium was built. In 1967, full meal service began. A pool was added in 1971. The growing student population led to overcrowding. Temporary classrooms were set up. In 1974, West Joyo Junior High School opened. This eased the pressure. Student numbers continued to rise. In 1979, South Joyo Junior High School opened. Still, Joyo Junior High remained crowded. Finally, East Joyo Junior High School opened in 1981. This brought the student population down.

By 1986, all school buildings were reinforced concrete. Today, Joyo Municipal Joyo Junior High School continues to evolve. It adapts to meet the needs of its students. It has become a modern educational institution. Joyo Junior High School embraces tradition and welcomes new challenges.
