Immanuel Tabernacle stands as a testament to the power of faith and the enduring spirit of a community. The church’s journey began in 1909. It was originally named Tabernacle Baptist Church. A group of 33 members from Calvary Baptist Church sought to establish a new spiritual home. Their first service took place on February 1st, 1909. They welcomed 119 charter members into a small rented building on South Upper Street. The congregation quickly outgrew this modest space. In 1910, they purchased land at the corner of High Street and Woodland Avenue and relocated their original building. The church continued to expand its physical presence. They acquired neighboring buildings for educational purposes. But the growth of the congregation necessitated a more substantial move. By 1957, the church leadership had acquired 22 acres on Tates Creek Road, on the outskirts of Lexington. A new building with a sanctuary seating 1,300 was dedicated in 1962. Immanuel Tabernacle continued to evolve. A Christian Life Center was added in 1974. The current worship center was dedicated in 1980. An educational wing and fellowship hall followed in 1989.
