Lam Sam Kaeo is a town within Lam Luk Ka District. Lam Luk Ka itself has a rich past. Once, this area was known as Thung Luang. It was a vast grassland. Scrubland and wetlands covered the area. Wildlife thrived here. King Chulalongkorn saw potential. He ordered the Khlong Rangsit canal to be cut. This brought irrigation and people to the area.

The district had waterways flowing through it. These waterways met in a pond. The pond’s shape resembled a crow’s feet. Many birds nested here because of the fertile pond. Locals called it “Bueng Lam Luk Ka”. This means “marsh of baby crow”. The name Lam Luk Ka stuck when the government formed the amphoe in 1904. They simply removed the prefix “Bueng”.
