Fox on a Box. It’s more than just a splash of colour against the Dublin backdrop. It’s a testament to the city’s vibrant street art scene, a partnership between Irish Rail, Aviva Stadium, and Dublin City Council. This mural, part of one of Ireland’s largest street art projects, stretches along the railway lines west of Aviva Stadium. It continues along the tunnel up to Lansdowne Road Level Crossing. This project began during the October Bank Holiday weekend in 2019. The initial phase focused on the two large walls at either end of Aviva Stadium. Fox on a Box, gracing Wall 1, depicts an urban fox. These creatures are often seen around city centre stations. The artist behind this striking image is Dan Leo. His style, a blend of bold colours and heavy line work, is inspired by obscure cultures, cartoons, music, and street art. He often features nature and animals, making the urban fox a fitting subject for this location. This massive artwork towers over the DART as it passes. It’s a vibrant greeting for visitors entering the stadium. This mural isn’t just art; it’s a symbol of Dublin’s urban wildlife, a reminder that nature finds a way even in the heart of the city. The Fox on a Box mural invites us to appreciate the unexpected beauty found in everyday spaces. It showcases how art can transform the mundane into something extraordinary.
