Picture this. You are standing before Oasis Church in Los Angeles. A magnificent structure. Its history is rich and full of surprises.

Oasis Church didn’t begin as a grand edifice. It started humbly. In 1984 a small Bible study group of ten people met in Beverly Hills. This group grew. Philip and Holly Wagner founded the church. Thirty people attended the first services. Among them were notable figures. Singer Donna Summer was an early member. Viola Davis joined later.

The church moved to the Oasis Theatre in the 1990s. Later it found a permanent home. It relocated to the Wilshire Christian Church building in the 2010s. This beautiful building. Designed by Robert H Orr. Built in 1927. In the Romanesque Revival style.

The building itself has a fascinating past. Originally the Wilshire Christian Church. It was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1979. Its impressive architecture stands as a testament to its history.

By the 2010s Oasis Church boasted over three thousand members. Known for its diversity and inclusion. The church’s impact extends far beyond its walls. It supports international poverty initiatives. Providing aid for widows orphans and clean water projects. In 1998 Oasis placed a star for Jesus Christ on the sidewalk outside their then-location on Wilshire Boulevard. Inspired by the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A unique “Walk of Faith”.

Today Oasis Church thrives in Koreatown. It continues its mission. A vibrant community of faith. A beacon of hope and service to Los Angeles. A testament to its humble beginnings. A remarkable journey of growth and impact. A place that embodies the spirit of its namesake. A true oasis in the city.
