Upon entering Hobart Road you see it. The Cambridge Seventh-day Adventist Church stands proudly. Its history whispers stories of faith perseverance and community. Pastor Percival Prescott a man of unwavering dedication began his ministry here in 1919. He journeyed weekly from Luton to spread the Adventist message. His early meetings were eventful. Undergraduates once plotted to dunk him and his companions in the river. A special constable and a crowd of 700 eager listeners thwarted the plan. The church’s early years involved numerous locations. From rented halls to temporary spaces the congregation sought a permanent home. Finally in 1961 they purchased 13 Hobart Road for £2600. This marked a significant step in their journey. In 1962 the foundation stone was laid by Mrs Adah Tapping. She was baptized by Prescott himself many years prior. The first service in the new building was held on November 24 1962. A church hall extension opened in 1979 hosting events like an anti-smoking clinic. In the 1980s two flats adjacent to the church were sold. The congregation reflects the city’s diversity.
