Hidden within Madrid’s vibrant tapestry lies the Centro de Enseñanza Superior Villanueva. What began as a dream in 1977 blossomed into a unique educational institution. The Centro de Enseñanza Superior Villanueva’s journey began with the establishment of the Escuela Universitaria del Profesorado “Fomento de Centros de Enseñanza”. This was spearheaded by Tomás Alvira. Later, in 1997, the Centro de Enseñanza Superior Villanueva itself emerged, affiliated with the Complutense University of Madrid. Both institutions paved the way for what would eventually become Villanueva University. The official recognition of Villanueva University as a private institution came in 2020. This marked a significant milestone after 23 years of operating as a university center under Complutense University. This transition, finalized by Decree of the Governing Council of the Community of Madrid, allowed Villanueva University to launch its independent academic journey in the 2020-2021 academic year. Villanueva University’s presence graces the Mirasierra neighborhood. Its campus occupies two buildings along Costa Brava Street in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district. Despite being the smallest university in Madrid in terms of undergraduate enrollment, the Centro de Enseñanza Superior Villanueva, now Villanueva University, offers a distinct academic experience. It retains a close relationship with the Catholic organization Opus Dei. The university is structured into two colleges. The College of Social and Legal Sciences provides a range of bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees. These include programs in Business Administration, Law, Journalism, and Education. The College of Health Sciences focuses on Psychology, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Villanueva University might be small, but its history reflects a dedication to growth and a commitment to providing a unique educational path. This is woven into the fabric of Madrid’s academic landscape.
