Is there anything more breathtaking than a view of untouched mountains? That is exactly what awaits you here at Somerset Lookout. This lookout is located in Mount Mee section of D’Aguilar National Park. It offers what is arguably the most stunning vista in the entire park. From this vantage point, your gaze can sweep across the landscape to Somerset Dam and the distant waters of Lake Wivenhoe. You can access Somerset Lookout by two primary means. If you are feeling adventurous and have a 4WD vehicle, you can take the scenic 14km Western Escarpment forest drive. For those who prefer a more immersive experience, there is the Somerset Trail. This 13km loop will lead you through lush rainforests, scribbly gum forests, montane heath, and even piccabeen palm groves. While the trail is well-marked and considered easy, be prepared for a solid three to four-hour hike. The real reward, of course, comes when you reach the lookout. Take your time to soak in the panoramic views. This is a view worth savoring.
