Deep in the heart of Houston, nestled within the Spring Branch area, lies Binglewood Park. It’s a place where community thrives and memories are made. Binglewood Park, also known as James W. Lee Park, isn’t just a green space. It’s a testament to the spirit of a young man and the love of a neighborhood. Binglewood Park sits at the heart of a vibrant community of over 700 homes. This community, also called Binglewood, is known for its active civic association. The association maintains the park’s beauty with new playground equipment, sheltered benches, a walking trail, and even pet waste stations. Binglewood Park’s story is intertwined with the life of James W. “Jimmy” Lee. Jimmy grew up in Binglewood, playing in the very park that now bears his name. He was the first in his family to attend Texas A&M University. He graduated with a degree in Forestry & Parks Management, dreaming of a career dedicated to preserving nature. Tragically, Jimmy’s life was cut short by a car accident just two months before he was to receive his Master’s degree. His family, heartbroken but determined to honor his memory, requested that the park be named after him. The City of Houston agreed. In 1988, Binglewood Park was officially dedicated as James W. Lee Park, a lasting tribute to a young man’s passion for nature. The park became a symbol of community love, a place where families gather and children play, much like Jimmy Lee did years ago. So, as you stroll through Binglewood Park, remember the story of Jimmy Lee. His legacy lives on in every laugh, every game, and every moment of joy shared within this special place. It is a reminder that even in the face of tragedy, the spirit of community can bloom and create something beautiful.
