Founded in 1950 the Friedrich-Robbe-Institut stands before you. It’s a testament to the dedication of Dr Friedrich Robbe a pioneering psychologist. He and his colleagues began teaching children in a private home. The school’s early days were humble. Classes were held in a simple apartment. Imagine the challenges they faced. This wasn’t just any school. It was a haven for children with special needs.

The Friedrich-Robbe-Institut’s origins are rooted in necessity. The Rudolf Steiner School in Wandsbek closed its support class. This left many children without educational opportunities. Robbe’s vision and commitment filled that gap. He saw beyond the limitations. He recognized the potential within each child.

The Friedrich-Robbe-Institut grew. In 1956 it moved to its own building. Sixteen students started their journey there. This marked a significant milestone. It symbolized a shift from a small initiative to a fully established school. Sadly Dr Robbe passed away unexpectedly in 1961. To honor his legacy the school was renamed the Friedrich-Robbe-Institut. His work continues to inspire.

The school’s growth continued. A larger inheritance in 1974 allowed it to move into a beautiful old brick villa. It was a significant upgrade. This provided better facilities for students and teachers. The journey wasn’t complete yet. A new era began. A new building was needed. Thanks to a generous inheritance a new building was constructed. This is where we stand today. It opened on April 13 1985 a truly momentous occasion. This purpose-built school ensures accessibility for all students.

Today the Friedrich-Robbe-Institut is a thriving state-recognized special school for children with intellectual disabilities. It welcomes children aged 6 to 18 years. Classes are small about eight students each. This ensures personalized attention. It upholds the principles of anthroposophical and Waldorf pedagogy. The school boasts a diverse community. Students and staff have family connections across over 20 countries. It’s a truly global community built on compassion and inclusivity. It’s a place where every child is empowered to reach their full potential. The Friedrich-Robbe-Institut stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity. It’s a testament to the enduring impact of Dr Robbe’s vision. It serves as a symbol of his lifelong commitment to helping those who need it most.
