“Revolutionary fervor and naval might intertwine here” This П. Е. Дыбенко Plaque commemorates a key figure. It remembers Pavel Dybenko a Bolshevik leader.

The П. Е. Дыбенко Plaque marks a spot linked to a turbulent past. Dybenko played a vital role in the Russian Revolution. He was chairman of Centrobalt. Centrobalt was the Baltic Fleet Central Committee. This committee held significant power.

In 1917 Centrobalt was established in Helsingfors. That was the Baltic Fleet headquarters. Dybenko led this body of 33 people. Centrobalt became the supreme naval authority. No order from the Provisional Government was valid without Centrobalt’s approval.

Centrobalt directed the Fleet’s political activity. It oversaw sailors and officers. This ensured discipline on ships. The committee even delved into the daily lives of sailors. By June 1917 Centrobalt had a statute. It proclaimed its naval authority.

On July 4, 1917 Centrobalt demanded power for the Soviets. Dybenko led a delegation. They were arrested upon arrival. The Provisional Government ordered Centrobalt’s dissolution on July 7.

A second committee was elected. It was also dissolved. They demanded their comrades’ release. A third committee emerged. They helped suppress General Kornilov’s mutiny. Sailors were sent from Kronstadt to defend Petrograd.

On September 9, 1917 Centrobalt rejected the Provisional Government. A fourth committee formed after the second Baltic Fleet Congress. Dybenko remained chairman. Others included V.P. Evdokimov and A.V. Baranov.

In October 1917 Centrobalt prepared to seize power. They followed the Petrograd Military Revolutionary Committee’s guidance. The Aurora cruiser was handed over. Ship committees raised armed units. Ships were brought to military readiness.

On the night of October 25, ships were sent to Petrograd. They carried detachments of sailors. These totaled around 10000 people. Centrobalt also dispatched the Oleg cruiser. They sent a squadron of torpedo boats. This was to repel Kerensky and Krasnov’s troops.

Dybenko’s influence extended to abolishing the Commander of the Baltic Fleet. Centrobalt assumed control on December 6. However the Fifth Committee was dominated by anarchists. Soviet authorities dissolved it on March 4, 1918.

Dybenko’s legacy is complex. He rose to prominence during a revolutionary period. He wielded considerable power. His actions shaped naval and political events.

The П. Е. Дыбенко Plaque serves as a reminder of this man. It recalls a time of upheaval and change. It stands as a testament to Dybenko’s impact. The plaque marks his place in history. Consider the weight of those decisions. The echoes of revolution still resonate here.
