“Once upon a time” a phrase whispered on countless stages. But here at the Lambert Puppet Theatre in Dublin a different story unfolds. This isn’t just any theatre. It’s the only purpose-built puppet theatre in all of Ireland.

Imagine stepping into a world crafted from wood and fabric. This is the Lambert Puppet Theatre a place where childhood dreams take shape. Founded long ago it quickly became renowned for its incredible productions. Classic fairy tales Little Red Riding Hood Three Little Pigs Jack and the Beanstalk and many more. These weren’t your average puppet shows. Original music and songs filled the air. Stunning effects made the stories come alive. Humor kept everyone laughing. The Lambert Puppet Theatre’s shows are internationally acclaimed. They have delighted audiences across America and Europe.

But this theatre’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. In 2015 a devastating arson attack caused significant damage. Yet like the resilient characters in its plays the Lambert Puppet Theatre rose from the ashes. Rebuilt puppets took the stage for a Christmas production of Aladdin. The spirit of puppetry lived on. The theatre remained a beloved part of Dublin’s cultural scene. For many years it was more than a theatre. It was a place for birthday parties. It hosted memorable celebrations with a special party package that included entertainment party hats and even orange squash. They could even arrange pizzas. This left parents free to just bring the cake and other treats. The Lambert Puppet Theatre even held workshops. Children adults even transition year students could learn the craft of puppet making. Schools loved booking shows. Especially during May and June the main school tour season.

The Lambert Puppet Theatre was much more than just shows and parties. It was a legacy a testament to the enduring magic of puppetry. It was a place where generations of children found wonder and joy. It was a family-run business. For many years it was family-run. Sadly the theatre closed in 2018. The building may be gone but the stories the memories the laughter remain. They live on in the hearts of those who experienced the magic of the Lambert Puppet Theatre. So let’s raise a glass to a theatre that brought joy to so many and that may never be forgotten.
