In the heart of El Cajon, a beacon of faith stands tall. Shadow Mountain Community Church, a testament to a century of spiritual growth, welcomes all who seek solace and inspiration. Shadow Mountain Community Church’s story began humbly in 1909, in a simple house at the corner of 41st Street and Adams Avenue. Originally known as Scott Memorial Baptist Church, it was founded in 1912 in North Park to honor U.S. Army chaplain Winfield Scott. As the congregation grew, a new branch, Scott Memorial East, was established in El Cajon on Greenfield Drive. This branch eventually became the Shadow Mountain Community Church we know today. The original North Park location transformed into Scott Memorial Community Church, then Grace Community Church, and later merged back with Shadow Mountain in 2014 as the North Park Campus. Shadow Mountain Community Church’s impact extends beyond its walls. Dr. David Jeremiah, who succeeded Tim LaHaye as senior pastor in 1981, launched Turning Point Ministry the following year. This international radio and television ministry broadcasts his sermons worldwide, sharing his message of faith with a global audience. Today, Shadow Mountain Community Church boasts eleven campuses, a testament to its growth and influence. It has become a cornerstone of the community, offering not just Sunday services but a vibrant array of ministries. From the energetic “Mountain High Kids” program to youth and high school groups, there’s a place for everyone. Various foreign-language ministries, including Spanish, Filipino, and Iraqi congregations, reflect the church’s diverse and inclusive nature. Shadow Mountain Community Church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant hub of community activity, a testament to the power of faith and fellowship.
